MT. WASHINGTON SUNSET

I broke my back shooting photos at a snowboard competition April 3rd. A snowboarder ran into me while I was shooting, not his fault or mine, it was just the wrong place wrong time for both of us. Ended up being a compression T-3 compression fracture. I am still in a back brace for another five weeks as I write this, but I am feeling better each day :)

Although our Winter season wasn’t the best, we've still had Spring snowstorms coming in and I knew the volcanoes would look great the moment these storms parted. The back injury wasn’t allowing me to do much of anything work wise so I opted to shoot sunrise and sunsets photos with my drone during this healing process. A two day snowstorm was departing 10 days after the injury and I headed up towards Mt. Washington to shoot sunset.

The forecast called for clearing in the evening which can always be a gamble; will the clouds clear before sunset or after? I sat in my truck staring at the beautiful volcano covered in clouds for three hours and then the clouds started to break 30-minutes before sunset, perfect!

The clouds cleared completely after sunset, but I’m glad they hung around enough to expose only the rugged, prominent top of Mt. Washington.

Love this photo.
