I shoot full moonsets in Central Oregon because of the foreground: volcanoes. There are 12 opportunities per year to try and shoot these beautiful happenings. Many of these opportunities are clouded out, so, in reality there are less than 12 chances to try and get a shot, equalling less than three percent a year. I bring all this up because with so few days to try I figure I should try each and every time there is a chance. I have failed more times than I can count due to location, off timing from apps., and clouds.
You are viewing the Harvest moonset in October of 2025 over Mt. Washington. I had no idea the bird was flying through the frame until I got home. Sometimes you get even more lucky beyond capturing the moonset over a volcano.
